Lammas is a very old festival celebrated in one form or another all over the world.
It means “first bread” and marks the start of the corn harvest. Ale is another old word mean festival as well as the stuff that goes down your throat and some would say makes the voice sweeter!
Lammas actually falls on the 1st August, but we’re celebrating it with a Summer Sing Out on Sunday, 24th July 2 – 5 at Bushwell House, 7 Melbourne Road, Newbold, Coleorton, Leics. LE67 8JH. (It’s about 7 miles from Ibstock).
We’ll also be singing acappella which means without music. This might sound a bit scarey, but many folk songs are sung this way and when they work, the harmonies sound fantastic!
We’ll be following up with a communal picnic and an improptu session of music/poetry/storytelling/jokes so it is a social event as well as the chance to try a different form of singing.
